Henry Brocas (1762-1837)
He was a Dublin-based watercolourist and illustrator, influential in the development of nineteenth century landscape painting in Ireland. He was appointed in 1801 as Master of Landscape and Ornament at the RDS School where he taught - among others - Sir Frederick William Burton. Brocas contributed many engravings of landscapes, portraits, and political caricatures to magazines and periodicals of his day. All four of his sons also went on to become professional artists (showing 500 of 819 characters). |
