Julius Lauber (1870-1960) was born in the Grand Duchy of Baden, now Germany where its border meets Switzerland and France. When he was nine, the family immigrated to the United States and later settled in Paterson, New Jersey, known nationally as “Silk City,” the country's center of silk manufacturing.
Although his youthful charcoal sketches showed artistic promise, any thoughts of becoming an artist were discouraged in favor of a wage-paying trade. Lauber took a job at (showing 500 of 2461 characters). |
