Born in 1937 in the Hague, Holland, Conrad K. Schierenberg grew up on a farm in Menzenschwand in the southern Black Forest. As a young man, without completed education and vocational training, he had to earn money with various jobs before he was able to devote himself to being an artist.
In 1959 he moved to Paris and studied painting there in the studio of a friend. He spent 10 years as a very successful artist in London, and then stayed on temporarily in Southeast Asia.
