This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Thomas Stone (1743-1778)

 Born at Poynton Manor, Maryland, 1743.  Landowner, lawyer, politician and artist. Declined Constitutional Convention in 1787, because his wife was sick.  She died 1787, and he never stopped grieving.  Planned trip to England, but died in Alexandria while waiting for the ship at forty-four.  Little is know about him, as no papers have ever been found.
