The following biography has been provided by Karen Towers Klacsmann, Adjunct Assistant Curator for Research, Morris Museum of Art, Augusta, Georgia.
Augusta Denk Oelschig was born on June 12, 1918, in Savannah, Georgia. She was the fourth and youngest child of Josephine (Denk) and Carl Henry Oelschig. Educated in Savannah’s public schools, where art instruction was part of the curriculum, Oelschig received encouragement from her art teachers, Linda Trogden and Lila Cabaniss.
