Born in northern Lebanon in 1968, Nijad Abdul Massih obtained a degree in Fine Arts and Creative Advertising
from the Lebanese American University of Beirut in 1993, working as a graphic designer and animator for a
local children’s program shortly after.
Having spent his adolescence in the Lebanese capital throughout the
Civil War (1975-90), traveling abroad became an important part of his life, and in 1994 he obtained a position
as a senior producer of a multi-national television network in Italy, remaining in Europe for thirteen years.
2006 Abdul Massih returned to his native Lebanon, beginning his artistic career with what he describes as his
“picture painting.” Frequently exhibiting these works in the Middle East and Europe, he currently lives between
Beirut and Rome.
For Abdul Massih, this unusual format allows him to incorporate layered photography into compositions that
create visual narratives of fleeting moments. Placing several images within a single work, he creates an illusion
of surrealism with a special technique that was fashioned after years of individual experimentation.
Abdul Massih opened his own gallery in Beirut’s Gemmayze neighborhood.
