|Biography from Art d' Art LLC Fine Art Consultants:|
|Michael Lotenero, a multidisciplinary designer, sculptor and mixed media
fine artist based in Pittsburgh and Boston, uses his work to describe spaces by isolating luminous,
twilight saturated hues behind or parallel to ominous curtains of dark
purples, browns and blues. |
In some compositions, Lotenero uses
dense, monochromatic and anthropomorphic forms, which hover before
brilliant fields of expressive color, emphasized by directional lines
scratched out into the pigment as in Come in Threes and Meet the Wall.
other pieces, working mostly within fore and middle grounds, Lotenero
forfeits perspective by flattening layers to stress ascending drama of
light (Tramontane, Figueres).
As a result, by limiting space
definition only to evolution of values, the artist is able to suggest
strategic, glowing focal points in which light always triumphs over
murky, irreducible dark.
Michael Lotenero has been honored
with awards from The Addys, AIGA, IABC Golden Triangles, Print's
Regional Design Annuals, HOW Magazine, Graphic Design USA and Graphis.
He has also received The Award of Excellence from HOW Magazine.
work has been published in TIME, The Wall Street Journal, Speak,
London's Computer Arts, Adobe.com, The Book of Probes by Marshall
Mcluhan (designed by David Carson), Big Magazine, Global Interactive
Design (Japan's PIE Books), The Progressive, Surfing Magazine and
Lotenero’s collaboration with José Muniain on the short film
installation Navarro, which documented his painting process, was a
