Biography from B. Deemer Gallery:
Ellen Glasgow’s paintings are an exploration of landscapes as they are “remembered”. She combines expressive brushwork with simplified representations of various land, air, and marine formations over strong horizon lines.  Editing of details allows Glasgow to rely on intense color combination to carry her compositions, created for contemplation rather than as a recording of the world as it is.

Ellen Glasgow is a long time resident of Frankfort, Kentucky. She has been exhibiting her work for over thirty years, and her work has been placed in numerous public and private collections across the United States.

Biography from Owensboro Museum of Fine Art:
Ellen Glasgow (b. 1936)
A nationally recognized landscape painter, Glasgow is owner and director of the Capital Gallery of Contemporary Art, Frankfort, KY. Throughout her artistic career, she has traveled extensively across the country, developing a sensitivity for the nation's coastlines, rivers, marshes, fields, ridges and mountains, all familiar subjects in her paintings.

Working in oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel and monotype techniques, the artist produces both large-scale canvases and small works on paper. Glasgow has been represented in numerous one-person and group exhibitions in the Midwest and along the East Coast.

Selected collections containing works by Glasgow include Evansville Museum of Arts and Science, IN; Owensboro Museum of Fine Art and City of Owensboro Municipal collection, both KY; Philip Morris, Inc., VA; IBM Corporations, Washington, DC; LG&E Collection, Louisville, KY; and the US Department of State, Beijing, China.

Born in Tennessee, Glasgow grew up in Western Kentucky and attended Murray State University, KY. Additional training in the visual arts was received at College of Albermarle, Elizabeth City, NC; Bishop Museum, Honolulu, HI; Art League School, Alexandria, VA and in workshops in Italy and Greece. Over the past 10 years Glasgow has led painting workshops to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and internationally to Italy and France.
