JAMES REED EVERETT (August 27, 1902 - August 21, 1977)

Portrait painter, still life painter, and draftsman.  Born in Newark, New Jersey.  Son of Laura B. (b. 1882) and Russell M. Everett (b. 1871).  His father was a patent lawyer and the family first lived on Ridge Street in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey and later at 14 Berkley Heights Park, Bloomfield, Essex County, New Jersey.

Everett attended Dartmouth College, from which he graduated in 1920.  He studied both in the United States and abroad, traveling to Haiti in December of 1922, returning to New York in April 1923, and traveling to Cuba in 1927.

That year (1927) he was living at 291 Henry Street in Brooklyn, Long Island, where he was listed as a portrait artist.  Later, Everett worked as a patent draftsman, a position that may have had something to do with his father's business interests.

He enlisted on October 14, 1942 to serve during World War II.  In his paperwork he listed himself as a commercial artist.  At the time of his enlistment he was living in Nassau County, Long Island, New York.  Following the war he and his wife, Dorothy, settled in Brooklyn and in 1961 moved to Manchester, New Hampshire where they lived on Cloyde Street.

James Reed Everett died on the 21st of August 1977 in Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.  His service was organized by the Goodwin Funeral Home and took place from Grace Episcopal Church.  Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery.

None of his paintings are known to be in any public collections, however several exist in private hands.
