This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Theodore Glass was born in Lemberg, Austria on September 21, 1893. His family emigrated to America in 1906 and settled in Chicago. He was by trade a lithographer and commercial artist, but spent decades painting and drawing. His exhibitions in Chicago include the 1921 Introspective Artists, 1922 No-Jury Society of Artists, and the 1934 and 1940 International Watercolor Exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago.

After studying at the Art Institute, Theodore traveled to Europe in 1924 to continue his studies and paint, particularly in Paris. He returned to America in 1930 and eventually moved to Los Angeles in 1942 where he opened two art galleries - the Paul-Anthan Gallery in Studio City in 1950, and the Paul Constant Gallery in Westwood in 1958 - and exhibited a number of well-known local artists.

Theodore worked professionally under his own name as well as the pseudonyms Theodamus and Paul Constant, and wrote and illustrated several books under those aliases. (He should not be confused with the artist Eduard Golascu, who also used the name Ted Glass.)

Theodore Glass died in Los Angeles in 1960.

Written and submitted by Matt Beal (great-great-nephew of the artist)
