This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The daughter of Roy and Hazel Hays, she grew up on the Hays Ranch in Peeples Valley, near Prescott, Arizona on ranch land, which had been settled by her father in 1912.  She attended a one-room schoolhouse near the ranch, and was a neighbor of the Rigden family ranchers.

The wife, Ada Rigden, moved to Arizona from Michigan, and was the teacher in the one-room schoolhouse.  One of her students was 13-year old Margaret Hays, who took art lessons from Ada and then went on to study art at the University of Arizona.  Margaret's thoughts of an art career got somewhat derailed by her ranching and wife duties because of her marriage to Tom Rigden, the son of Ada, who had married Charles Rigden.

The Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott has "Pencil Sketch of Mary Jones" dated 1935 by Margaret Rigden of Peeples Valley, Arizona.
