This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Harry Swanson was born in Hartford, Connecticut and trained at the Hartford Art School with Alan Tompkins and in Boston with MacIvor Reddie. Through the years he has had galleries in Newbury, Massachusetts and Lincolnville, Maine.  Now about age 80, he has transplanted his studio to Fairview, Tennessee.

Harry Swanson has won many awards and national competitions including "Best of Show" at the National Competition at Ellsworth Gallery in Simsbury, Connecticut. He has been selected for inclusion in Who's Who in the East, and his paintings have been exhibited at the Art Center of Ogunquit, Maine; Copley Society, Boston; Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts; North Shore Art Association; Newburyport Art Association; and Camden National Bank, Camden, Maine.

His paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and abroad.  He has also illustrated books and worked as an illustrator at Itek Corporation. He did concept art projects with NASA in the 1970's.

Swanson works in oil, watercolor and acrylics in both Realistic and Impressionist styles. He is adept, as well, in palette knife techniques. He is inspired by the Old Masters such as J.M.W. Turner and Winslow Homer, and is especially known for his love of nature expressed in his seascapes and landscapes of New England.
