Mariano Madarang (1937) was born in Kiangan, Ifugao, Mountain Province. (Geometric abstractions) UST 1953. Visual and plastic arts, East-West Center, Univ of Hawaii, on a John D. Rockefeller III study grant and a Felicing Tirona grant. Research and art conservation, Art Center of NY, Academia de Bellas Artes in Mexico and the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC 1968. Up to the present, Mandarang undertakes restoration and conservation work for private collectors and institutions. Chosen one of the outstanding Ifugaos of the Phil 1985. Influenced by the geometrization of form through transparent layers of color taught by vicente manansala. Also created semi-surrealistic compositions through detailed drawing and brushwork in pen and ink. Presently paints realistic genre scenes highlighted by layers of color applied in straight bands that evoke the linear patterns of Banaue rice terraces.
