Biography from Pritzker Military Library:
James Ferrell Bell, born 8 September 1932 in Joliet, Illinois, was a 1950 graduate of Joliet Township High School.  He graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS degree in Management and a minor in Fine Art Graduated from the US Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 1972

He retired from the US Army Reserves as a Colonel in 1983. In retirement, he established an art studio known as "Col James F. Bell Military Historical Artist".

Colonel Bell Specializes in acrylic painting. His work covers the US Civil War, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam. He is a member of the United States Air Force Art Program. His art work including aircraft art has won numerous awards and been exhibited in Illinois, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri and Washington DC.

He was an Illinois State Senator and briefly served as an Assistant Attorney General for Illinois in 1970's.

Colonel Bell and his wife Sharon live in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Submitted by Terry Embrey, Chief Librarian of Pritzker Military Library, which hosted work by this artist and others in an exhibit "Don't Be A Dope!: Training Comics in World War II and the Korean War", February to August, 2012.  After traveling to Washington DC as part of the exhibit, work by this artist and the others will become part of the U.S. Air Force Art Program's holdings.
