artist was born 50 years ago in Medford, Mass. Except for a
year's study as a special student of Julian Levi, he is
self-taught. Muench is director of the School of Fine and Applied
Arts in Portland, Maine.
He has won two Tiffany Foundation
Fellowships, in 1948 and 1954. Three years ago he was awarded a
fellowship by the Tamarind Lithography Workshop.
has won awards from the Brooklyn Museum, Library of Congress, Society
of American Graphic Artists, Dallas Museum of Art; The Pennsylvania
Academy of the Fine Arts; Audubon Artists, Silvermine Guild of Artists
and the University of Southern California.
His work is in the
permanent collections of numerous museum and universities, including
the Fogg Museum, London's Victoria and Albert Museum; Jerusalem's
National Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Paris' Bibliotheque
Nationale, and PAFA.
