A New Ralism and Pop Art painter, he is one of the pioneers of Video Art. Cardena was one of the ten artists invited to the cultural soirees of Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands in 1969.
Cardena was born Miguel-Ángel Cárdenas in 1934, in Espinal, Colombia. Educated at Universitad Nacional Colombia, Universitad de America Bogotá, Scholarships of Departments of Education and Arts of Colombia and the Netherlands, he resided in Bogota but went in 1962 to Amsterdam (the Netherlands) were he is still working and living.
