| Xavier (Charles) Basil Radoff was born in Izmail, Bessarabia, Russia (now Ukraine) on March 15, 1894. Radoff immigrated to New York City in 1912 and and adopted the name Charles. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWI as a map delineator of enemy positions. He was wounded in the war and spent a few years in Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. He had a shop in Paris until 1932 when he settled in Los Angeles. By the 1950s he had art galleries in Van Nuys, Reseda,and Corona del Mar. He exhibited florals and seascapes at the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach before his demise in Los Angeles on July 5, 1986.
