Mary Eleanor Whelan was born in Los Angeles, CA of Irish parents on June 22, 1881. Whelan was educated at the Pratt Institute and Columbia University. She taught in the public schools of Santa Monica for 44 years. A spinster, she died there on March 29, 1974. She was the sister of artist Eva Whelan. Member: Pacific AA; Southern Calif. Art Teachers Ass'n.
