Nicolas Poliakoff was born in Russia in 1899; he was the brother of Serge Poliakoff.
Poliakoff worked in Paris in the circle of André Lhote. His Cubist nudes and figures are typical of the later modernist painters. His brother Serge is one of the most important abstract artists of the period.
