Emigrating to America between 1796 and 1799, Frederick Bischoff settled in Reading, Pennsylvania and until his death in 1834, was a painter of portraits, miniatures, silhouettes and butterflies and also did fraktur decoration. One of his silhouette portraits, Captain De B. Keim, shown wearing boots and holding a large hat, was the first painting in the Berks County Historical Society Collection, donated in 1904.
As a fraktur artist, Bischoff is documented as having created a birth (showing 500 of 2392 characters). |
