Biography from Knoke Fine Arts:
Born in Georgia in 1952, Buck Jones studied at Georgia Southern University on a golf scholarship. He became a professional golfer. Since 1983, he has worked for the US Post Office. While recovering from a back injury in the 1990’s, Buck began drawing and later worked in watercolor. Though he had no formal art training, he sold nearly all of his works.

In 1997 he visited the Terry Redlin Museum of Art in South Dakota. He was so inspired by the richness of color and texture in the oil paintings that once he was back home he began to paint in oils. He and his wife, Judy, visited western states, photographing subjects to be used for his paintings.

Buck is inspired by the romantic traditions of western life. In addition to western paintings, he focuses on how the South appeared from 1890 to 1940, painting country mills, wagons, gas stations and riverboats. “I like to capture a mood,” Jones said. “I paint a lot of historical subjects that depict a particular time and place. I want someone to look at one of my paintings and want to be there, at that place and time.”

His paintings are in private collections in the South and in the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia.
