Born : February 20, 1944 in Paramaribo, Suriname (South America)
Died in July 1983 (in his hometown Paramaribo, Suriname, South America)
Jules Chin was a painter, sculptor, ceramist and was teacher at the Teachers' education center in Suriname (1967-1983). He was the founder of Suriname's first official Academy for Arts and Social studies (1966-1983). He was Head of the Department of Culture and of the Ministry of Education and Youth (1981-1983)
Jules was mostly known for his great feeling of nationalism, his large amount of energy, and his eagerness to educate younger artists to pass on his own knowledge.
In his work, in the 60's, he showed a true Surinamese woman. In the years afterwards, he turned to a more realistic approach, in photo realistic paintings.
He had a great interest in politics.
He studied at the Academy of Tiburg, the Netherlands (1963), Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam (1965), the Netherlands, and gained his Master of Arts degree at the New York University (1975)

Painting, drawing, etching, designer of stamps, illustrator for several books, ceramics
Largest work : Monument for the revolution (prize he won in 1981)
He wrote two books. One on higher art education for Suriname (1981) and a poetic booklet (1971)
His work in in collection of the Museum of Suriname where some work was taken over from Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. His work is also in agallery in Tjecheslovakye.
Many pieces of his are privately owned.
He passed away from a heart attack in his home on July 28, 1983
