This biography from the Archives of AskART:
John Datu was born December 30, 1896. He was an Art Director and Illustrator for the majority of his career. Datu did the art direction for as many as 10 movies in the 1940's including Red River staring John Wayne and Mongumery Cliff, and such thillers as The Monster and the Ape and Black Arrow as well as others. It is known that he worked in the film industry up until the 1970's.

He was also an accomplished illustrator and produced many fine works.

John Datu was also known and worked under the name John Datu Arensma.

John Datu died December 12, 1985 in Orange County California.
