Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
Jacques Vacke was an artist born on May 1 in the Belgian city of Ypres (Ieper) in 1749. Where he received his first drawing lessons is unknown. Some sources mention him already in 1769 in Rome. Like many artists, he was on a study trip to Italy where he stayed a long time in Rome and made numerous drawings of ruins in red chalk in the Neoclassical and Realistic style.
In Rome he was good friends with Joseph-Benoît Suvée (1743-1807). In March 1772 he became a student of the Academy of Pari (showing 500 of 889 characters). |
