BIOGRAPHY: Marion Lord Swierkos (1920-2009)

A watercolorist, Marion Lord Swierkos  (1920-2009) received a BA in Fine Arts ('42) from the University of Rochester and a MS in Education ('60) from the State University of New York at Brockport.  The Rochester, New York native was an elementary art teacher who authored Industrial Arts for the Elementary Classroom (1973). 

Predominately a watercolorist, the artist studied with many noteworthy 20th century teachers including Edgar Whitney, John Pike, Zoltan Szabo, Charles Movali and Betty Lou Schlemm, who included her work in The Best of Watercolor vol. 3.

Ms. Swierkos explored watercolor techniques of white on white, which is evidenced in many of her upstate New York and New England winter landscapes and lace still life work.

Ms. Swierkos held membership in numerous art affiliated organizations: National Watercolor Society, American Water Color Society and Transparent Watercolor Society.

She was a signature member of the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society, Philadelphia Watercolor Society and the Georgia Watercolor Society.  She exhibited at national juried shows and locally at the Rochester Memorial Sales and Lending, Austin Harvard Gallery and Lower Mill Gallery.  Her watercolors are in many Rochester, NY corporate collections.
