Biography from Morton Fine Art:
"My work is a visual portrayal of the deconstruction and reconstruction of the human psyche via the acts of mutilation, sexual deviance, and aggression. Through the use of both natural and unnatural alterations of human and animal anatomies, I narrate the degradation of the human condition and simultaneously its ritualistic healing using the visual cues of stitching and twine. In the work you find notions of conflict, anguish, and sacrifice; and a display of the dichotomy of these notions and how they play equal parts in the dismantling of self and the spiritual evolution of the human ideal."
-Stephon Senegal

Stephon Senegal was born in Louisiana. In his work he explores the interplay of sensuality and violence in realistic renderings of both human and animal forms. As a product of a challenging upbringing with only his grandmother and mother as his caregivers, he does work, which embraces the depravity inherent in a childhood based in the context of poverty. Commingled through his art are hints of Catholic tutelage and the quiet strength of unsanctioned religious ritual.

Mutilation and sexual forms are cleverly hidden in his lifelike, yet liberal formations of the human form mixed with ritualistic iconography. In the words of the artist: “Violence and explicit sexuality are the fundamental drivers of human intent and interaction”; this idea is fundamental to the works that drive this artist and key to its allure to the many private collectors who have secured his work.
