Biography from Daphne Alazraki Fine Art:
Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data compared to the extensive information about American artists.

Pierre Félix Fix-Masseau was born March 17, 1869 in Lyon. Fix-Masseau’s paintings featured mostly still life and floral subjects, while his sculptures were more figural. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, and traveled throughout Holland, Switzerland, and Italy. He became director of the Ecole Nationale d’Art Decoratif of Limoges in 1935. Fix-Masseau exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, and also in 1890 at the Sociéte des Beaux Arts, of which he became a member. He was made an officer of the Legion of Honor.

Fix-Masseau’s sculptural work was highly regarded, especially his busts of Anna de Noailles. However, he was also famous for his decorative and graphic arts. A follower of the Art Nouveau style, he created many domestic objects such as vases and chandeliers, as well as posters. His works have been displayed in museums in Lyon and Paris. Fix-Masseau died in Paris in 1937.
