This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data compared to the extensive information about American artists.

The following information is from Jerry Parks Young, whose source is .
Please note that the surname is the full " DICK PEDDIE" ( non-hyphenated). Dick is not a middle name.
The Dick Peddie family is a prominent firm of architects operating since 1845 to the present day in Edinburgh.
J Dick Peddie was one of the sons and worked as a tutor / scholar. He was employed by the Young family (Wm Young, one if the founders of Lloyds of London under the 1874 Lloyds Act) and painted both in Surrey at the London estate in Charlwood ( Stanhill Court - now a hotel), and at the Young family's game estate at Loch Tummell
One of three pieces we hold is signed "J Dick Peddie 1893". There are references to other works by J D Peddie in other databases, all dated 1890's and incorrectly referencing the full surname as "Peddie" rather than the correct "Dick Peddie".  The family now hyphenates their surname to remove this confusion.
