Birth : 1935, Scranton, Pennsylvania

Gloria Lenakos Gaffney moved to Asheville, North Carolina from Pennsylvania in 1995 where she continued developing her established skills in murals, icons, plein air and figurative work.

She studied art through the University of Illinois (BA;MA), the Corcoran School of Art (Washington D.C.), Art Students League ( New York City),  Art Institute of Chicago, Woodstock School of Art (New York), La Romita School of Art (Umbria, Italy,) and Atellieres Sans Frontieres (Montsicard, France). Throughout her education, she was heavily influenced by Old Masters' painting techniques.

Ms. Gaffney has exhibited and received various honors and awards through The Salmagundi Club ( New York City), the National Art League (Douglaston, New York), Hudson Valley Art League (White Plains, New York), Peintres Dans La Ville (Montreuil Bellay, France) and Exposition d'Art Contemporain (Anjou. In Asheville, North Carolina, her murals are represented in the permanent collections of the Biltmore Estate and its University of North Carolina. Commissions for the City of Asheville, notable for catching the flair of its street scenes, are in permanent collections throughout the town.

Focusing  on painting techniques of the Byzantine and Renaissance arts and intrigued by their beauty's ability to elevate man, Ms. Gaffney studied with Master Iconographer, Xenia Pokrovsky.  Ms. Gaffney's icons are in Asheville's Saint Mary's Episcopal Church, Holy Trinity Church, and Saints Joseph and Andrew (Candler, N.C.).
