Emeline Sarah McMillan was born on 11th May 1847 and christened at St James’s, Westminster, London on 7th June 1847. Her parents were James (1804-1884) and Emeline Sarah (nee Keith) (1823-1902). She had 2 brothers, James and Walter George, and a sister Helen.

The family lived at 104 Jermyn Street, Piccadilly where they owned a shoe/boot making business with other members of the family.
Emeline did not marry but lived with her brother James, also unmarried, until her death in 1940 in Wandsworth.

She exhibited twice at the Royal Academy. In 1886 she showed a painting entitled Mariana, and in 1892 another painting titled A Surrey Cottage. She gave her address on both occasions as Hill Road, Wimbledon.

She was not a member of the Royal Academy. There were only 40 members at this time and membership for artists was by election of the exiting members.

She also exhibited at the annual exhibitions of the Royal Society of Birmingham Artists, The Walker Gallery in Liverpool, The Manchester City art gallery and the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters in London.

Written and submitted by Helen Mills who wrote: "Emeline was the daughter of my great great grand uncle James". Her sources include information received in December 2011 from the Royal Academy London.
