Biography from J Levine Auction & Appraisal LLC:
Mia Tarducci Henry (1974) - USA

Henry was raised in Newport, RI and currently lives in Pittsburgh, PA. She studied art history at the University of Siena, Italy and minored in an art concentration at Georgetown University where she received her BSL in 1997. A decade later Henry began pursuing a career as an oil painter.

Since showing her work publicly in 2009, Henry has had solo exhibitions each year and has been in group exhibitions. Her work has been selected by jurors from the MoMA, Guggenheim, Brooklyn Museum, MoCA Cleveland, Carnegie Museum of Art, Andy Warhol Museums and Mattress Factory for exhibitions, which include both museum and gallery settings in Pittsburgh, Dallas, and New York City.

Henry has received awards from juror’s including “best oil” for her piece Revival in Brooklyn in 2012.  She was most recently honored with a nomination by the Pittsburgh Society of Artists for Pittsburgh Center for the Arts “Emerging Artist of the Year” award, which carries with it a three-month solo exhibition at the center in May 2014.  She was later notified that she was selected as “Emerging Artist of the Year 2014”.

In addition to her personal artistic pursuits, Henry has made it a mission to promote other emerging artists in Pittsburgh and help shed light on what she feels is a pivotal time for the arts in her community.  Along with a fellow artist, she opened “the Mine Factory” in June 2013.  The Mine Factory mission is to give Pittsburgh a new event venue to highlight the talent and innovation being seen in the current “maker” scene.  The building in which the Mine Factory is located is a former mining safety equipment factory which over the past 2 years has begun to attract artists and small design businesses. Today the building has over 30 independent artists and it’s story was recently featured in a documentary, which played at the “American’s for the Arts” convention this year.

Henry lives with her husband Tom - a financial analyst and stand-up comedian - and the couples four children Grace(14), Sophia(11), Sam(9) and Jack(6) in Pittsburgh.
