Biography from Neal Auction Company:
Born at Charity Hospital, Bruce Davenport Jr. grew up in the Lafitte Housing project in the 6th Ward of New Orleans.  As a student at Joseph S. Clark High School, Davenport became intrigued with the school`s marching band.  In response to Hurricane Katrina, Davenport began a series of works that celebrated the marching bands of New Orleans' schools, many of which never reopened after the storm.

According to the artist, "The marching bands are a passion to me.  I love the history and culture... My work serves as an illustrative reminder of an activity that not only encourages creative thought processing but also engages youth with the community and with each other...I recreate their vibrant pageantry...hopefully leaving behind a sacred reminder of a vibrant part of my hometown`s identity."
