Erzsebet Hikady Czene (1911-2008)

Born in Budapest, she was the wife of the well known Hungarian painter Béla Czene.  She studied at the College of Fine Arts in Budapest from 1929 to 1934 under the supervision of Gyula Rudnay.  In 1938 she won a scholarship to the Collegium Hungaricum and she spent the next two years in Rome.  Her first solo exhibition was in 1931 in Budapest's Szinyei Salon.

She painted mainly landscapes, representational works and still-lifes.  In 1952 she was awarded the artistic prize of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.  In 1958 she participated in exhibitions organized at the Ernst Museum, in 1960 at the Institute of Cultural Relations, and in 1966 and 1971 at the Csók Gallery together with here husband.  Her works were also exhibited in Italy, Germany, Holland, India, Japan and Moscow.  She had solo exhibitions in Japan in 1977 and 1979.
