Military Artist Jim Ryan Receives Association's Exceptional Service Medal
05/01/2002

Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan, USA, Ret., president of the Association of the United States Army, presented the Association's Citation for Exceptional Service in Support of National Defense to Jim Ryan, in recognition of the contributions he has made as an artist specializing in American military history.

Ryan, an executive with Media Solutions, Raytheon Technical Services Group, in Burlington, Mass., received the award at the Raytheon exhibit at the AUSA mid-winter symposium and exposition at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.??

Nominated for this recognition by the Association's First Region and its president, Joe Santarelli, Ryan was cited for his "outstanding artistic accomplishments by creating commemorative works of art that highlight our fighting forces in Word War II, Korea, Vietnam and Somalia -- and Medal of Honor recipients."??

A member of AUSA's Minutemen Chapter and a former region vice president, Ryan has attended numerous Annual Meetings and Association symposia where he has signed hundreds of his prints that were then given, at no cost, to soldiers, ROTC cadets and attendees.??

The Peabody, Mass., resident has received the U.S. Army Chief of Staff's Coin of Excellence, the U.S. Army Commander's Award for Public Service and the Grumbacher Gold Medal.
