Notable as a Federal Arts Project artist during the Great Depression of the 1930s, Jules Halfant was part of the mural and easel division of the New York Works Progress Administration (WPA). He was an active member of the Artists' Union in the 1930's and 40's, and was part of the 1977 commemorative exhibition: "New York City WPA Art: Then 1934-43 and Now 1960-77". Halfant was responsible for the design of the catalogue for this exhibition as well.
