Biography from ArtSanDiego:
Roberta Asseln Hansen was born in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania on November 12, 1907. Her painting style and subject matter varied widely. She was known for her modernist, almost abstract landscapes and figurative works, and as a brilliant colorist. She was a student of George Fowler, Robert Frame, William Bowne, Robert Uecker, and Oscar Van Young.

At the age of 15 (1922) she moved to Los Angeles, California with her family. While studying art at the Chouinard Institute she was employed in the commercial art business. While still a student there she won a 3rd Place award for her work submitted to the Los Angeles County Fair. Throughout her career she was the winner of many awards in both advertising and the fine arts.

After her graduation from Chouinard she became affiliated with Allied Advertising Artists (AAA). The house organ she designed and illustrated won awards in 1936 and1938 from the American Association of Industrial Editors. After a 30-year career in advertising art, and as a partner with AAA, she turned completely to her fine art career. After her marriage to Harold Hansen in 1957, they moved to San Clemente, California then later to Vista. At the time of her death on June 6, 2003 she was living in Ridgecrest, California.
