Born in either Baltimore, Maryland or Lowell, Massachusetts (see below), Sarah Whitman was a painter of flower paintings, portraits, and landscapes. In the 1890s, she focused on stained glass. She also became one of the most important book designers of her day, credited with revolutionizing book design.
In 1877, she studied in France with Thomas Couture at the Villiers-le-Bel and also studie (showing 500 of 1465 characters). |
