Born in Ireland, Peter Duggan was brought to the United States as an infant in 1810. Little is known about his youth nor does it appear that anyone has found his birth date. He became well respected in New York City between 1844 and 1856 for his crayon and charcoal portraits. It is thought these were his years of late 30s and early 40s.
In 1842, he is listed for the first time as a student at the National Academy of Design*, having enrolled in the Antique Class. He conti (showing 500 of 2262 characters). |
