Carl Eytel was born into a wealthy family in Württemberg, Germany on
Sept. 12, 1862. As a teenager Eytel studied forestry and spent one year
of military service. Through his studies in Stuttgart libraries,
he learned of the Old West and became so obsessed with painting it that
strong resistance from his family could not deter him from coming to
America.
Immigrating to the U.S. in 1885, he worked on a cattle ranch in
Kansas. He returned to Germany for a brief period (showing 500 of 1416 characters). |
