This biography from the Archives of AskART:
"Lyman Byxbe is one of many great artists who have turned to the majestic Rocky Mountains for inspiration and the subject matter of their compositions. Born in Pittsfield, Illinois, he began at an early age to teach himself to draw.  He became a successful commercial artist in Omaha, Nebraska, where he studied the art of etching under Mark Levings, an architect.  In 1938 Mr. Byxbe moved to Estes Park, Colorado, where he has had a summer studio for many years. All of the artist's time and talent is devoted to copper plate etching in his mountain studio.

In the last few years Lyman Byxbe has been honored by membership in the Chicago Society of Etchers, Miniature Print Society of Kansas City, Missouri, and Northwest Printmakers of Seattle, Washington. He is represented in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Arts, at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., and the Library of Congress, at Washington, D.C."

Submitted by Sammi Davis, owner of two Byxbe etchings, who found the above description on the back of the etchings. Publisher is Rome Creations, Boulder, Colorado:

This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is from Fred W. McCraw, Kansas City, Missouri:

Sammi Davis provided a Rome Creations bio from the back of one of her two prints. I also have two etchings framed in the '60s (after Zip codes were invented).  The artist provided a bio in his shop that is affixed to the back on one of these. It is titled Exhibitions and National Honors Given to Etchings by Lyman Byxbe, 1934, '35, '36.

The last paragraph reads as follows: "Mr. Byxbe was born February 28, 1886 in Pittsfield, Illinois.  He and Mrs. Byxbe first came to Estes Park, Colorado in 1922. They moved here in 1934.  He started painting in 1945."

The wording "They moved HERE in 1934" is my basis for assuming this was published in Estes by the artist for use in his shop in the '60s. This seems to refute the 1938 establishment date provided by Rome Creations and also provides the month and day of his birth and the year of his first visit to Estes Park.

This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Pittsfield, IL on Feb. 28, 1886. Byxbe spent most of his career in Nebraska and Colorado. An itinerant artist, he worked all over the West, including California. He died in Estes Park, CO in March 1980. Exh: Int'l PM Society; Chicago Society of Etchers; Grand Central Art Gallery (NYC); Smithsonian Inst., 1937 (solo). In: AIC; Library of Congress; NMAA.
