This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Millbury, MA in 1813. Dunnel exhibited at the NAD in 1847-48 and then joined the Gold Rush to California in 1849. He was in business in Colma when California became a state and served as Colma's first justice of the peace. In 1851 he returned to New York, but came to California again in 1857 for a three year period as a representative of the Singer’s Sewing Machines. After 1860 he was a resident of NYC where he died on Jan. 25, 1904. Exh: NAD, 1847-48; Mechanics' Inst. Fair (SF), 1857. In: Bancroft Library, UC Berkeley (Sutter's Mill).
