Comments: The best William Gay Yorke I have had the pleasure of selling in the last forty years. This painting depicts the Three Masted Schooner Maggie Abbott of Boston by William Gay Yorke (1817-1892). Signed and dated lower left 1871, the year this vessel was launched. Oil on Canvas,26x36 inches, overall is 31x41 inches.This vessel worked the ports of Boston and New York and made several trips to the West Indies. New York Times October 24,1896 "Reported the schooner Maggie Abbott of Boston ran aground Providence, Rhode Island at Watch Hill at about 5 o'clock in the morning. The schooners crew was saved by the Watch Hill rescue station. Captain Lunn telegraphed New London for a tug. It is not known whether the vessel was saved.
