Comments: There are two pieces in this collection - One horizontal and one vertical. One is 20 by 27 inches; the other is 18.25 by 12.25 inches. John Zurier lives and works in Berkeley, California and is represented by three important galleries in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. In 2002 he was included in the famed Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. His first review in Art in America was in 2006. He is considered an emerging artist, and his currently quite affordable price levels are a fortunate added benefit of enjoying the work of this strong imagist with, one supposes, a long career still ahead. In addition to painting, Zurier is known for his rich monotypes on raw linen and paper. Each is entirely unique. A monotype is a "one-off" impression made by inking or painting a glass plate and passing it through the press, thereby transferring the color to the substrate. Zurier is known for his dramatic abstractions; works in which he layers amorphous color so lightly that it can appear breathed or willed into place.
