This biography from the Archives of AskART:
From Bordentown, New Jersey, Al Barker is a painter of landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, and tidal marshes so characteristic of his home state where he has had a fine art career for over thirty years.  He paints with oil and watercolor and also does etchings.  A specialty is miniature painting and he has entered numerous exhibitions of the National Miniature Society.

In the spring of 2006, he won the Alden Bryan Memorial Award for Traditional Landscape at the Salmagundi Club's annual exhibition.  He has won over fifty awards and has work in many collections including the White House.

Al Barker earned an advanced degree in forestry, an interest which, of course, took him to the outdoors and the "constantly changing" nature.  He taught himself to paint and says of his landscapes: "I never see the same scene twice.  There is always something new to paint."

"Bordentown Artist Al Barker", Antiques and the Arts Weekly, May 5, 2006, p. 9
