| A mapmaker whose map of Washington DC, was critical to the defense of
the nation's capital during the Civil War, Albert Boschke provided the
map in 1861 that was used as the basis for the overall map in planning
the defense of the nation's capital. When he did the map, which
measured 132 by 144 cm, Boschke was employed by the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers.
Boschke also did maps of the New York Harbor in 1855.
