| | Born in Louisville, KY on April 16, 1866. Brooks (né Brukk) began his career in Galveston, TX as an employee of Clark & Courts Lithography Company. In 1906 he moved to Pittsburgh, PA to work for Republic Lithography. While there, he invented the sensitive tint for check protection. From there he moved to Chicago to work for Western Bank Note until 1914. He then bought a home in Alameda, CA and ferried daily to San Francisco as an employee of Britton & Rey and Carlisle Litho companies.
