| Alexander Dallas Bache was born on July 19, 1806 in Philadelphia, PA, Alexander Bache graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1825.
As a member of the Coast Survey, he arrived in San Francisco in
September 1849. While in California he sketched and painted from San
Francisco to San Diego.
He died in Newport, RI on Feb. 17, 1867.
