| Amy Brackenbury was born and raised on a cattle and sheep ranch in the northern Colorado foothills. She majored in art and minored in music at Colorado State University and later studied with Bob Bateman, Bob Kuhn, William Reese and David Leffel.
Her works have been exhibited for 8 years in the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art
Museum "Birds in Art" show and her art is in the permanent collection.
Living on part of the old ranch with her artist/rancher/musician husband Lars Larson, they perform western music at Cherokee Park Guest Ranch next door. Amy leads nature hikes, exploring and explaining the flora and fauna, geology and history of northern Colorado. One day a week the guests from the ranch are invited to their ranch for a gallery and house tour.
Influenced by her years on the ranch, she paints all the things she saw as a child - animals, birds and fish, cowboys, flowers and gardens, the Colorado foothills, and people. All media are explored- oils, acrylics, pastels, mixed media. Perhaps her most distinctive style is a French/ Persian /Asian fusion - gold paintings with a border painted with with flowers and animals in acrylics and stamped with ethnic wooden stamps. The center is painted in oil or acrylic with animals, flowers or people.
Amy currently teaches oil painting, pastels and experimental pastel classes at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Fort Collins, Colorado.
