Biography from Papillon Gallery:
| Ann Bridges is a contemporary Southern California artist who paints portraits, figures, the California landscape, and other scenes of life. She works from observation and frequently goes in 'plein air' to capture her images.
Bridges is particularly interested in the vanishing California landscape. She goes on site to work from observation and captures the pristine beauty of the areas that are in danger of urbanization. Her works are typically painted in rich colors with broad, expressive brush strokes yet the images remain recognizable to those familiar with the locales.
Bridges’ long running series Off the Coast of America captures scenes of natural beauty on Santa Catalina Island that were once common on the mainland of southern California.
Bridges holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree from California State University Long Beach, is active in Southern California arts community, and serves on the faculty of the Orange County High School for the Arts where she teaches figure drawing and painting.
She exhibits throughout the Southwest and is included in a large number of private, public and corporate collections. She was featured in a solo exhibition at Susan Schomburg Gallery in Bergamot Station, Santa Monica CA in April of 2003. She is the recipient of a number of honors and awards, including first place in a recent Long Beach Plein Air Competition.
An important public project featuring 11 paintings, including a 16 foot mural, was completed for the headquarters of the Cucamonga County, CA Water District in 2000. She has also participated in numerous juried exhibitions and many of the most important art festivals in America, including the Carmel Art Association Plein Air, the Ann Arbor Street Fair and the Sausalito Art Festival.
Her professional affiliations include the Artist Council of the Long Beach Museum of Art, the California art Club and the Oil Painters of America.
