| Born in Topeka, Kansas on Feb. 27, 1871.
In the 1890s the Bakewell family settled in Oakland where Ann's father
was the first Episcopal minister of St Augustine's Church at 29th and
Telegraph. She studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute
(1893-1901) and under William M. Chase in Carmel in 1914.
Her brother, John Bakewell, was the architect of the San Francisco City Hall and partner of Arthur Brown.
